The capitol of North Dakota is Bismarck, people seem to forget that, and just outside of Bismarck is a golf course considered to be one of the best in the entire state.
The Hawktree Golf Club.
The course is designed in the links fashion, where the holes and fairways weave alongside the water hazards, both natural and man-made.
One of the most distinctive features of Hawktree is the way the bunkers are presented. Bunkers are known for their pure, white sand but Hawktree goes a different direction, one that makes the sand black! Instead of white sand, the course designers used black coal slag. Since wind is an omnipresent factor in North Dakota, this solved the problem of the sand blowing away. Not to mention the fact it’s probably easier to get coal rather than sand.
But that is not the only distinctive feature of Hawktree. Great care was taken to preserve the natural splendor of North Dakota during the construction. The hills roll and pitch with the landscape and native grasses cover the fairways.
Speaking of hills, there is a unique hole at Hawktree. It is the third hole, and it can be reached either by cart or by rope climbing!
Why?
The hole has and eighty-foot elevation! This one is a challenge in more than one way. Every other hole is of championship caliber but don’t let that intimidate you. This course has four sets of tees for the player to customize their game, and the Yardage System allows the player to compensate for their handicap. This lets the golfer play their game at any level they choose. From relaxation to office pool challenge! The beautiful scenery and exquisite design will make any game a fun one.
The Hawk is calling. Will you answer?
