Aloha! Welcome to the islands of the fiftieth state.

Kapalua is a luxurious, holistic living, resort nestled on the shores of Maui. Alongside all the nature preserves are two world-class golf courses, the Bay Course and the Plantation Course. Both are excellent courses for a golfing pilgrimage to the Aloha State but the Plantation Course is considered the greatest of the two.

The Plantation is built in order to take advantage of the stunning vistas of the Pacific Ocean and the natural splendor of the West Maui Mountains. Golf architects Bill Core and Ben Crenshaw designed the Plantation and created a course that honored the Champions but was in a league of its own.

Being a rather far away place, Hawaii and its people have always done things their own way, and the Plantation course is not immune to such a mindset.

Kapalua, Plantation Course #18

Its a different sort of course and requires the player to think differently while at play. The yardages vary, as well as the ratings. The course is generous to all levels of play and that can create a great of options and varieties for teeing off and driving. Like the volcanic isles it calls home, elevation plays a large role on the greens and fairways, especially on the challenging 18th with a dramatic downhill slope. The 14th hole has quite a few bunkers and the 4th hole is on a rolling landscape and pretty short. Balls on the greens may end up rolling towards the sea and several shots may be made while completely blind. It is up to skill to succeed on the Plantation Course.

This course definitely challenges the norm, but frustration is a abated by the immaculate greens and expert service and spectacular scenery. Ho’olu komo la kaua!
