The Links of North Dakota

Straightforward name isn’t it? Not much more needs to be said. The Links of North Dakota is a golf course way up in the Roughrider State, nestled along the shores of Lake Sakakawea that provides a genuine links golf experience of England and Scotland without having to take a trip across the pond!

The land of the course consists of sandy loam soil, it was up to architect Stephen Kay to hew the land into the Top 100 golf course it is today and it delivers on its promise.

For being so far from Scotland, North Dakota Links provides the genuine article. There is not a single water hazard to be found on the course, aside from the lake it straddles, but instead there are bunkers a plenty to swallow up a wayward shot, caused in part by the undulating terrain. Being so close to the lake  and the flat prairie will cause a prevailing wind to screw up a shot. The fairways are nice and wide but with rough native grass.

Links courses have a proud heritage and can seem very intimidating but not to worry, there are five tee boxes available for every level of golfer in order to play the course’s 18 holes. Lake Sakakawea can be seen form the front nine and the back nine holes offer beautiful views of the North Dakota plains.

Many say that Links of North Dakota is in the middle of nowhere and that is not untrue. Think about though…its never crowded and you get a lot of clean air.

Consistently ranked as an underrated course, The Links North Dakota is a hidden gem of golf that provides a genuine experience that is worth every penny, and it doesn’t even require that many penny’s to play!
