Louisiana is a state steeped in history. Colonized by the French, it has always stood out somewhat separately from the other states of the Union. Like the famous city of New Orleans, the state has always danced to its own tune. It’s history and culture have had a powerful effect, even until the present era. Even within the sport of golf. The age of antebellum and plantations may be over but at the Country Club of Louisiana it has never been forgotten.

Opening for play in 1986, the Country Club Golf Course was first designed by the legendary golf architect Jack Nicklaus, The Country Club is a handsome course with a traditional vibe. With 18 holes and a par of 72, the Country Club is over 7100 yards long and a slope rating of 149. Bunkers feature prominently around the course, utilizing a state of the art drainage system. What separates The Country Club from much of Nicklaus’ work is that over five of the holes don’t have any bunkering at all.

The 6th hole is designed to replicate the 16th hole at the Augusta National course, one of the most famous courses in the world. The signature hole has bunkers on three sides and a water hazard on the left. Par 3 is the name of the game here. The smallest green on the course is on the 16th hole. A par 4 on 360 yards, it has a significant water hazard in the form of a creek on the left side that crosses in front of the green. To add to the challenge, on the right of the fairway is a bunker and two grass bunkers around the hole.

As can be expected from its name, The Country Club of Louisiana is a private experience and in order for the average player to tee off, one must be the guest of one of its members. Do yourself a favor and work towards that! A pitcher of lemonade will be waiting.
