The Baltimore Country Club

Baltimore Country Clun

Amongst the hills that roll through Maryland’s “hunt country” lies a golf club that is among the most famous in the state. The Baltimore Country Club was founded in 1898 but the course, designed by A.W. Tillinghast, did not open for play until about thirty years later in 1926. Since then is has been the delight of club members and their guests for nearly a century. In addition to wonderful amenities such as swimming pools, fitness centers, and world class dining, acclaimed golf is available for play.

There are two golf courses at the Baltimore Country Club: The East Course and the West Course. Of the two, the East Course is considered the best. It is a scenic course where great care was taken to emphasize the trees that grown amongst the course. All the holes are framed by forests in a pattern that never gets repetitive. It is a smaller course than normal at Par 70, and the water hazards are limited, but the course maintains its classic style throughout. So much so that the Baltimore Country Club East Course was named the 41st in Golfweek’s America’s Top 100 Classic Course.

Adding to the acclaim are the five championships have taken place among the greens of the East Course. Including the 1988 Women’s Open Championship, the 1928 PGA Championship, and the Senior  Player’s Championship for three years in row. Clearly, the Five Farms East Course is doing something right about this crazy game.

The West Course is the younger brother of the East Course, having opened much later in 1962. It has yet to rise to the acclaim of the East Course but having been renovated by Bob Cupp and Hall of Fame member Tom Kite, its legend is sure to grow in the coming years at Baltimore Country Club.
