Muirfield Village Golf Club

Muirfield Village Golf Club

One of the oldest golf clubs in the world is the Muirfield Golf Club of “The Honorable Company of Edinburgh Golfers” of Scotland. It was one of the most famous courses on Earth and golfers from all over come to play on its links, including one Jack Nicklaus who was so enthralled by the majesty of Muirfield that he decided to replicate the course in his hometown of Dublin, Ohio.

The course opened for play in 1974 and stands as one of the top one hundred courses in the United States and the top course in the state of Ohio.

The Muirfield Golf Club is an 18 hole course with a total yardage of 7,221. The course, keeping in with the upscale setting is immaculately manicured with rolling fairways lined by black walnut trees. Accuracy is the name of the game at Muirfield Village. Jack Nicklaus fronted the big bucks when constructing his dream course, in fact, his house, is right off the eighteenth hole. The bunkers and water hazards have been superbly designed to swallow up a reckless shot. That does not mean you have to be a slave to form. The course rewards players who take risks upon the greens.

One can tell that when designing Muirfield Village, Jack Nicklaus wished to honor the original Muirfield but not copy it. Indeed, players can see the Nicklaus style all over the course. The course has hosted numerous tournaments over the years, most notably the Memorial Tournament, so as a result, the course provides space for spectators and stands, so at times the course can feel empty if one is not there during such events, but don’t let yourself think that it deprives one of the enjoyment of playing the personal course of one of golfing’s greatest champions.

If you happen to know, or know someone who knows a member of Muirfield, take steps to make them your friend so that you can tee off on the favored child of Jack Nicklaus.
